Orissa beaten in Sub-junior Girls NFC final

Bengal won the sub-junior girls National football title for the first time, pipping former champions Orissa in the final at Haldwani in Uttarakhand  today. Sabuni Das scored the all-important goal in the extra time after play in the regulation time ended in goalless draw.

Before the final, Orissa had suffered a 3-4 defeat against Bengal in their last quarterfinal league match. This is also the second successive time that Orissa finished runners-up in the championship. In the seventh edition, 2006-07 champions Orissa played a total of seven matches, won five and lost two.

ORISSA PERFORMANCE:
Cluster-V League: Beat Chandigarh 5-1, beat Kerala 14-1.
Quarterfinal League: Beat Haryana 1-0, beat Uttarakhand 2-0, lost to West Bengal 3-4.
Semifinal: Beat Manipur 3-2.
Final: Lost to West Bengal 0-1.
